Filming a wedding at Petersham Nurseries

Petersham Nurseries in Richmond is London's botanical wedding venue - glasshouses filled with plants and antiques, candlelit dinners among the vines, and a country-garden atmosphere ten miles from the West End.

Filming in a glasshouse is filming in nature's softbox: diffused top-light, greenery in every frame. Little needs adding - the craft is in staying out of the way.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Petersham Nurseries yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • Glasshouse ceremonies film with soft, even, plant-filtered light - every face flattered, every frame layered with green.
  • Richmond Park and the river are minutes away for a short escape-portrait sequence.
  • Candlelit long-table dinners among the plants are made for warm, close, documentary coverage.
Richmond's protected airspace and park restrictions limit drone use - the glasshouses are the star regardless.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
