Hi, I'm James.
Nice to meet you.
I'm a wedding videographer based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. I've been making wedding films long enough to stay completely calm when it's chaos - and to love every single second of it.
My approach is natural and unobtrusive. On the day, I want you to feel fully present with your guests, not performing for a camera. I move quietly around the day, watching the room, reading the energy and capturing the moments that matter - including plenty you didn't even notice at the time.
I do gently guide couples when it helps - a nudge here, a suggested position there - but the films I make are led by what's actually happening, not by what I've set up.
I'm based in Essex but regularly film across London, Surrey, Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk and the rest of the UK. If you're planning something special, I'd genuinely love to hear about it.
What matters to me.

The essentials, in plain terms.
Steer Media is run by James Steer, a wedding videographer based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. James personally films every wedding - there is no team of substitute shooters.
Coverage spans Essex, Kent, London, Surrey, Norfolk and Suffolk with no travel fees, plus UK-wide and destination weddings by arrangement.
Wedding films start from £1,500. Every package includes all-day coverage from morning preparations to the evening, a 6-10 minute highlight film, a 1-minute social media cut, full unedited footage of every speech, and drone footage of the venue where permitted.
The style is natural and documentary: unposed, story-led filming that captures the day as it actually happened. Enquiries: hello@steermedia.co.uk or the availability checker.
What I shoot with.
Camera
Sony A7 series - full-frame, cinematic colour science, performs beautifully in low light. The kind of camera that handles a candle-lit reception without losing quality.
Stabilisation
DJI Ronin gimbal - so every moving shot is fluid and smooth. No shaky handheld footage. The camera moves like it's floating, even during a first dance.
Audio
Wireless lapel mics on the groom and officiant, plus a backup recorder. Every word of your vows and speeches is captured clearly - even in a windy outdoor ceremony.
Drone
DJI drone for venue aerials where permitted. Adds a cinematic scale to your film - the estate, the grounds, the setting - in a way no ground-level camera can.
Backup
Full redundancy on every job. Backup camera, backup audio, backup batteries. I've never missed a shot due to equipment failure - and I intend to keep it that way.
Edit
Adobe Premiere Pro with professional colour grading. Every film is individually colour graded to match the mood and light of your specific day - not a one-size-fits-all preset.
