Filming a wedding at Shangri-La The Shard
Shangri-La The Shard hosts weddings from level 34 upwards - floor-to-ceiling views over the whole of London, sleek interiors, and the closest thing the capital offers to marrying in the sky.
The view is the co-star, and it changes by the hour - daylight, sunset, city lights. I plan coverage around that arc so the film's backdrop tells the time of day.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Shangri-La The Shard yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- Vows against the skyline, shot with faces exposed correctly against bright windows, are the technical craft this venue demands - and rewards.
- Sunset over the Thames from level 52 is the portrait slot to build the timeline around.
- Night coverage with the city glittering below closes the film like a bond title sequence.
You're above drone height with a better view - no aerial work needed when the venue is the aerial.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
