Filming a wedding at Fanhams Hall
Fanhams Hall near Ware is a Jacobean manor with a surprise: authentic Japanese gardens, wisteria walkways and ornamental lakes alongside its formal English lawns - a genuinely unusual canvas for a film.
Few venues offer this much visual variety in one walk. I plan a route through the Japanese gardens for portraits and let the manor's panelled rooms carry the ceremony and speeches.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Fanhams Hall yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The Japanese garden bridges and maples give portrait frames you simply cannot get anywhere else in the county.
- Wisteria season (May) here is spectacular - worth planning portrait timing around if your date allows.
- The Long Gallery's panelling films warm and intimate for candlelit evening speeches.
The gardens and manor are striking from above. Drone flights depend on venue permission and conditions on the day.
