Filming a wedding at The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden at Mersham is exactly what the name promises - a walled-garden venue where dinner happens amongst the planting, glass and greenery, and the whole day feels grown rather than staged.
Venues built around gardens are a gift for natural filming: living backdrops, soft filtered light, and colour that changes with the season you marry in.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at The Secret Garden yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The walled garden gives intimate, layered frames - I shoot through foliage for depth rather than around it.
- Glasshouse-style dining spaces flood with natural light; speeches film beautifully without any extra kit.
- Golden hour in a garden venue is about texture - hands, petals, glasses, laughter - as much as wide shots.
It rewards a closer, more textural style - which is how I naturally work. Expect a film with real depth and detail rather than big empty wides.
Not yet - this is a planning guide. I scout every new venue before the day, walking the spaces and planning around the light.
