Filming a wedding at Elton Hall

Elton Hall near Peterborough is one of the region's most romantic stately homes - part medieval, part Gothic, wrapped in billowing gardens with a lily pond and rose-covered walls, still the family home of the Probys.

Houses this layered give a film built-in chapters: stone, garden, water, candlelight. I sequence the day so the venue's variety mirrors the story's shape.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Elton Hall yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The rose gardens and herbaceous borders in high summer are as lush as anywhere in England.
  • Gothic windows and turrets give dramatic silhouettes for dusk exteriors.
  • The lily pond's still water doubles every portrait it reflects.
The hall and gardens are magnificent from the air - flights subject to family permission and day-of conditions.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
