Filming a wedding at Shilstone House

Shilstone House near Modbury is a Georgian manor with a rare gift: a day that flows without a single turnaround - ceremony barn to courtyard drinks to marquee reception, each space ready and waiting.

Zero turnarounds means zero dead time on film. The day moves like a single continuous take, and I shoot it that way - following the flow rather than resetting for it.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Shilstone House yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The courtyard drinks hour, framed by the manor, is the social heart of the film.
  • South Hams countryside gives the marquee reception a glowing green backdrop into the evening.
  • The ceremony barn's honest textures film warm without any dressing.
South Hams setting suits drone establishing shots with the venue's permission, weather allowing.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
