Filming a wedding at Micklefield Hall

Micklefield Hall is an exclusive-use estate near Rickmansworth with a 16th-century tithe barn, an orangery, a garden temple and rose gardens - and a forty-year history as a film location, which tells you everything about how it photographs.

Venues chosen by film crews make my job a joy: every sightline works. I move between barn, gardens and temple with a light footprint and let the estate's variety carry the film's changes of pace.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Micklefield Hall yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The tithe barn's beams and festoon light make evening coverage rich and warm - no additional lighting needed.
  • The garden temple at golden hour is the couple-portrait frame the whole county envies.
  • Rose garden confetti, shot backlit into the sun, is a signature moment here in summer.
The estate welcomes discussion of drone use for establishing shots - permission and weather confirmed before the day.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
