Filming a wedding at Brocket Hall

Brocket Hall is a Grade I Palladian mansion in 543 acres of Hertfordshire parkland, just 22 miles from London - a venue that draws couples who want country-house grandeur without leaving the capital's orbit.

The lake and Paine's bridge below the house are the defining frames here. I plan the day's portraits around them, then keep the rest of the film candid and close.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Brocket Hall yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The ballroom's chandeliers and full-height windows give speeches and first dances a golden glow that needs almost no extra light.
  • Paine's bridge over the Broadwater is the portrait location - five quiet minutes there anchors the whole film.
  • Arrival by the sweeping drive, filmed long-lens from across the lake, sets the scale of the day in one shot.
The lake, bridge and parkland are spectacular from above. Flights are subject to estate permission and conditions, confirmed in advance.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
