Filming a wedding at Leeds Castle
Leeds Castle needs little introduction - a castle rising straight out of its own lake, surrounded by parkland, and one of the most photographed wedding backdrops in the country.
The challenge with a venue this famous is making the film feel like yours rather than a postcard. The castle earns its establishing shots and one unforgettable dusk frame; everything else stays close to the two of you and the people you've brought with you.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Leeds Castle yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The castle across the water is the definitive establishing shot - best in early evening when the light warms the stone and the lake goes still.
- Parkland approaches give graceful walking sequences between the day's chapters.
- Interiors are rich and low-lit - I work with fast lenses and available light to keep the atmosphere intact.
A venue of this profile has its own rules on aerial filming, so I always confirm permissions with the events team in advance - where it's allowed, the lake and castle from above are extraordinary.
Not yet - this guide is for couples planning a wedding there. I scout every new venue before the day, so the key frames are planned rather than hoped for.
