Filming a wedding at Cooling Castle Barn
Cooling Castle Barn sits beside the ruined gatehouse of a genuine medieval castle on the Hoo Peninsula - a rare combination of relaxed barn wedding and 700-year-old backdrop.
North Kent is closer to Leigh-on-Sea than most of Essex's own venues - straight over the river - which makes this one of the easiest venues anywhere for me to cover from first prep to last dance.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Cooling Castle Barn yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The castle gatehouse is the signature frame - it gives a barn wedding a sense of history few venues can match.
- The gardens between the barns handle confetti, drinks and golden hour beautifully.
- Big Hoo Peninsula skies make for dramatic wide establishing shots, especially late in the day.
Very - it's just across the Thames from Leigh-on-Sea. One of the closest venues I cover, which means early arrival and full-day coverage with no travel maths.
Not yet - this guide is for couples planning a wedding there. I always scout new venues so the coverage is planned around the actual spaces and light.
