Filming a wedding at Hever Castle

Hever Castle - the childhood home of Anne Boleyn - is a moated Tudor castle with formal Italian gardens, a lake, and about as much romance per square foot as any venue in the South East.

It's a venue of layers: the intimacy of the castle itself, the drama of the gardens, the calm of the lake. A good film moves through those registers the way your day will.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Hever Castle yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The moat and drawbridge give the arrival real cinema - I cover it from more than one angle.
  • The Italian gardens reward slow, composed gimbal work; the loggia by the lake is the golden-hour spot.
  • Tudor interiors are dark and characterful - exposure discipline keeps faces warm without flattening the mood.
It's an easy run from Leigh-on-Sea via the M25 - comfortably within my standard Kent coverage, no travel fees.
Not yet - treat this as a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early to walk the spaces and plan around the light.
