Filming a wedding at Harlaxton Manor
Harlaxton Manor near Grantham is the most theatrical building in Lincolnshire - a colossal Victorian pile blending Jacobean and Baroque, rising at the end of a mile-long drive like something imagined rather than built.
You cannot over-shoot Harlaxton's exterior, but you can under-shoot the people in front of it. My rule here: the manor earns the establishing shots and the finale, your day earns everything in between.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Harlaxton Manor yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The mile-long approach, filmed as a slow reveal, is the most cinematic opening shot in the county.
- The Great Hall's carved staircase and cedar interiors give ceremonies operatic scale.
- Terraced gardens step down the hillside - each level a different portrait frame.
Few UK venues reward aerial work like Harlaxton. Flights are subject to the manor's permission and conditions, confirmed before the day.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
