Filming a wedding at Doddington Hall
Doddington Hall, five miles from Lincoln, is one of England's most beautiful Elizabethan houses - never sold since it was built in 1595, still family-lived, with walled gardens and a refurbished Coach House that hosts up to 150.
A house that's been loved by one family for four centuries films differently - nothing is staged, everything is real. I lean into that: honest light, real texture, unhurried pace.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Doddington Hall yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The Long Gallery in the hall itself seats 200 for ceremonies - Elizabethan windows throwing beautiful side-light.
- The walled garden's box parterres and roses give layered, formal portrait frames.
- The Coach House courtyard glows under festoon light for relaxed evening coverage.
The Elizabethan facade and gardens are glorious from the air. Flights depend on estate permission and conditions, arranged in advance.
Not yet - consider this a planning guide. Before any new venue I visit or arrive early on the day to scout ceremony sightlines, light and sound, so the coverage is planned rather than improvised.
