Filming a wedding at Wotton House

Wotton House outside Dorking pairs a historic mansion with some of the earliest Italian gardens in England - temples, terraces and a grotto folded into the Surrey Hills.

Gardens with built follies give a film ready-made scenes: every temple and terrace is a composed frame waiting for two people to walk into it.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Wotton House yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The Italian gardens' follies and water give unique portrait settings you won't see in anyone else's film.
  • Terraced levels create natural depth for wide ceremony and reception shots.
  • Hillside light lingers here - golden hour runs long and warm.
No - all of Surrey is standard coverage from my Essex base.
Not yet - this guide is for couples planning a wedding there.
