Filming a wedding at The Boathouse

The Boathouse sits right on the edge of Ormesby Broad - open water, reeds and big Norfolk sky, one of the few venues in the county where you can marry by the waterside itself.

Water changes everything for a film: reflections, movement, birdlife, and an horizon line that gives even simple shots a sense of calm.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at The Boathouse yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • Waterside ceremonies are the venue's signature - I frame wide to hold the Broad in shot.
  • Sunset over the water is the closing frame; I plan the evening around being outside for it.
  • The jetty gives couple portraits a setting no barn or ballroom can offer.
The indoor spaces face the Broad through glass, so the view stays in the film whatever the sky does.
Not yet - this is a planning guide. New venues always get scouted before the day.
