Filming a wedding at Asylum Chapel
Asylum Chapel in Peckham is one of London's most extraordinary wedding venues - a semi-ruined 19th-century chapel where peeling plaster, bare brick and stained glass do more for a film than any amount of styling could.
It attracts couples who want something honest and atmospheric rather than polished - which is precisely the kind of wedding my films are built for.
Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Asylum Chapel yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
How I'd film your day here
- The chapel's texture is the star - I shoot wide enough to honour the space and close enough to keep the ceremony human.
- Light through the windows moves across the room during the day; I plan the ceremony coverage around where it lands.
- The venue is ceremony-first, so I treat the walk in, the vows and the walk out as the film's emotional spine.
All the time - city weddings often split ceremony and reception. I plan the move like any other chapter of the day so nothing gets missed.
Not yet - this guide is for couples planning a wedding there. I always scout a new venue before the day.
