Filming a wedding at Nettlestead Place

Nettlestead Place is a 13th-century manor house in the Medway valley with gardens that step down in layers - lawns, borders and quiet corners that feel a world away from anywhere.

Historic manors of this scale are intimate rather than grand, and the film should be too: close, warm, and led by the people rather than the architecture.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Nettlestead Place yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The layered gardens give natural depth to every frame - I use the levels rather than fight them.
  • Old stone takes late light beautifully; the last hour of sun is the portrait window.
  • Smaller historic spaces mean minimal kit and quiet working - coverage that's present but never felt.
Always, for a venue I haven't filmed at - either a scout visit or an early arrival on the day to walk the spaces and plan around the light.
Not yet - this guide is written for couples planning a wedding there.
