Filming a wedding at Leez Priory

Leez Priory is a Tudor mansion outside Chelmsford with a genuine sense of occasion - red brick, a tower, walled gardens and grounds that give a wedding film real scale without ever feeling stiff.

Historic venues reward a patient camera. The architecture provides the backdrop; the film still has to be about the people in front of it. That balance is exactly what I aim for here.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Leez Priory yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The tower and courtyard give strong establishing shots early, so the rest of the film can stay close and personal.
  • Interior ceremony light is warm and directional - I meter for faces, not walls.
  • The grounds offer several distinct looks in one venue, which keeps a highlight film visually moving.
Usually yes, subject to the venue's permission and conditions on the day - the estate looks superb from above. I confirm restrictions ahead of time.
Not yet - this guide is for couples planning a wedding there. I always scout a new venue before the day, arriving early to walk the spaces and plan around the light, so nothing is left to chance.
