Filming a wedding at Gosfield Hall

Gosfield Hall is a Grade I listed Tudor mansion and former royal palace near Braintree - one wedding a day, exclusive use, a ballroom built for a Marquis and 23 bedroom suites to end the night in.

Five hundred years of history does half a film's work for it: carved panelling, candlelit corridors and a courtyard that turns confetti into theatre.

Honest note: I haven't filmed a wedding at Gosfield Hall yet - this guide is written for couples planning one there. Before any new venue I scout in person or arrive early on the day, walking the ceremony and reception spaces and planning shots around the light, so nothing is left to chance.

How I'd film your day here

  • The Grand Salon and ballroom give the wedding breakfast real cinematic scale.
  • The licensed carriageway ceremony puts your vows against centuries-old architecture.
  • Overlooking Gosfield Lake, the grounds hand golden hour a ready-made backdrop.
It is one of Essex's landmark venues and firmly in my patch - an easy reach from Leigh-on-Sea.
Not yet - treat this as a planning guide for your day there.
